Read and increase your knowledge

Learning about the environment is so important as we learn new things each day.

What is the environment I hear you ask? The environment is all the circumstances, objects and conditions that surround each of us, such as climate, soil and living things. There are a lot of books that touch on different parts of the environment to help you learn. You could ask mum and dad as well as your teacher to help you get started. You can also check your school library or even surf the net if you have access to a computer, to find out more information about climate change.

Help to Save Electricity

Whenever we use electricity, we are adding more greenhouse gases into the air. Simple things like turning off lights when you don't need them, switching off the television at the wall not with the remote and turning your computer when you are done using it all helps a lot, especially if we're all doing it.

Bike, Bus, and Walk

You can get very good exercise by biking or walking while saving energy at the same time. Even taking the bus instead of going in your own car means your family is cutting back on your own energy usage and that's good for the environment.

Talk About It

Talking about climate change to your family, school mates and friends is a great way to make people aware of climate change and improve your own knowledge about it.  Let them know what you have learnt and who knows, they may teach you something valuable too.

Plant More Trees

Planting trees like of fruit and vegetables as well as trees for shade in your backyard means you help mum and dad spend less on shopping for groceries. You can pick lettuce, tomatoes, herbs from your garden instead! It is a fun past time and great project to keep you and your brothers and sister busy and outdoors getting some sunshine and exercise.  It's also a wonderful way to help reduce greenhouse gases. You see trees absorb carbon dioxide from the air which as you now know, is a greenhouse gas.

Recycle

Recycling things like jam jars and bottles that are safe to reuse, plastic bags and newsprint is a good habit.  By recycling you send less trash to the landfill and that helps to save natural resources such as trees, oil, and elements like aluminum.

Buy Smart

There are lots of ways we can improve the environment. One of the ways to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that we put into the air is to buy products that don't use as much energy. By conserving energy, we help reduce climate change and make the Earth a better place. Some products – like certain cars and stereos – are made specially to save energy.

Things to Think About

Recyclable products are products that are made out of things that already have been used.  Did you know that buying recyclable things instead of non-recyclable ones is one way of helping the environment? Here's how you do it, you look for the recycle mark, which are three arrows that make a circle, on any item you buy.  Another thing about recycled goods is that to make them normally takes less energy than it does to make new ones. The less energy we use, the better.

What exactly is solar energy?

Solar energy is a fancier way of saying "energy from the sun".  The sun is what makes solar energy and with the help of solar panels It can be used to heat homes, buildings, water, and to make electricity. Around the world in more developed countries, thousands of homes and offices use solar energy for power.

Vehicles

Driving a car or using electricity is not wrong. We just have to be smart about it, for instance, four people can ride together in one car instead of driving two cars to work. Cars have become so important in our lives that we hardly do anything without using one daily. However, they are a huge part of pollution and release a lot of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Fortunately, there now cars that are better for the environment. These cars can also travel longer on a smaller amount of gas and they don't pollute as much, either. Using these kinds of cars helps reduce the amount of greenhouse gases released into the air daily.
